SOURCE: NY Times In Search of a Browser That Banishes Clutter By JULIET CHUNG Published: August 12, 2004 FOR Katherine Sandlin, a barrage of pop-up ads was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back - in this case, her reliance on Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Even before her home page could load, thumbnail-size advertisements would crowd the monitor urging her to apply for a credit card or find love online. So she asked around for other ways to browse the Web. On...

SOURCE: NY Times The Color of Mayhem, in a Wave of 'Urban' Games By MICHEL MARRIOTT Published: August 12, 2004 THE screen crackles with criminality as a gang of urban predators itch for a kill. The scene erupts into automatic-weapons fire in a drive-by nightmare of screaming car engines, senseless death and destruction set to a thumping rap soundtrack. The action is not part of a new film, but of a video game in development - the latest permutation of Grand Theft Auto, one of...

Long ago, I thought to myself that a website that had products to sell might be better off if the content on the site keeps those who browse around there. It was very much "in" back when the bubble was huge and went away like the dinosaur when the bubble burst. Now its back... maybe??? This article from the NY Times talks about how some net sites, like Vegas.com, have started to have more content then just come here to buy stuff. Instead of 10 staff writers, now they have 12. Reviewing ...

Search Advertising will now be part of this blog. Search Ad is a blog and website coming out in January 2005 and will have many deals, links to related news and other tid bits. It will eventually have a message board (one that is linked to a messageboard universe called BBx) and will, more likely than not, keep the blow running once the messageboard is complete. The site itself is under-construction. You can view it here . It will be a site that will be development over time and will even...

As a security guard I know this is true. Sadly many officers do not get treated very well and when things are reported, it depends on if the company cares or not. it could be extremely important, but fall on death ears. Most of those who work are struggling and don't wish to be noticed. Others are going to school and are trying to live while working. These are the people who get taken advantage of. Read the article from USA Today. It paints a sad picture of the people who protect us when w...

SOURCE: kasia in a nutshell Keep your weblog clean! By kasia in a nutshell: February 27, 2004 It appears that comment spam is here to stay, and attacking the source produces little to no results. Best we can do is get rid of the pesky trash they throw our way and move on with our lives. The more we delete - the less reason they have to continue, so with all this diligence why is the spam still around? Because not everyone appears to care. Those who don't are the ones providing ...

This is what I needed. I had a major issue about security in NY (and quite frankly elsewhere) and I landed on this part of the MSNBC site called the Capitol Advantage. Or called The legislative Action Center. Anyway, go check it out, and be careful about the posting part. If your speaking in privacy, then make sure you don't select that button. Even if you do, just don't select any where to be posted. Good Luck! AK AL AS AZ AZ CA CA CT DE DC...

With one blog posted just hours ago here, not what I find is that some of the data used is old. Now that might not be as bad as it might sound. Sometimes something that was done in the past might have made it to the table of someone making some decisions. Ad it to current data and you have something to worry about. Ergo, terror alert raised. You know what is so funny about all of this? More people die from car accidents, drugs, and just regular crimes then in terrorist attacks. The part 't...

Here is an article form on of my favorite blogs, Slate. He speaks to how there were no more terrorist attacks in America is more likely because of better surveillance and good police teamwork. some of his views I agree with while others I don't. what I agree with: An attack is years or months in the making. The greatest blow to al-Qaida has come from the removal of its haven in Afghanistan and the disruption of the permissive environment it enjoyed in numerous countries. what I don't ...

SOURCE: CNET NEWS.com eBay's music foray lacks volume Published: August 3, 2004, 4:00 AM PDT By John Borland Staff Writer, CNET News.com Just hours after eBay announced its new music download site, a handful of songs popped up for sale--a sure sign of intense interest in the company's plans to take on iTunes and others. It was the wrong sign. The files had been posted by people who were not authorized to sell music in the six-month test and were quickly removed. The site...

SOUCRE: CNET NEWS.com Is Apple becoming the Microsoft of music? Editor's Pick from around the web The iPod is designed to play music purchased from Apple Computer's iTunes service and files in the MP3 format, but not songs from all competitors. So RealNetworks released software this week that allows its music to be played on the portable device, much to Apple's consternation. Has Real adopted the "tactics and ethics of a hacker," as Apple puts it, or has the Mac maker taken a pag...
