I guess this would tie into my plan for a summit of web designers, advertisers, website administrators to make a unified effort to make the internet a better place to be, more thought out advertising, better designed WebPages, and more insightful information. I would guess the beginning of this would be online news.

I always felt the New York Times and Google was a good model, apparently this article make light of what I saw as a better way to advertise, better web design, cross marketing, and intelligent news that EDUCATES! Its it important to note that if you give a viewer something other than a migraine of pop ups and misplaced ads that could have just as well been informative or place somewhere else works.

Something else that's getting worse lately is ISP's jacking their prices up.
Mine has already done it twice since the start of the year, and their service is hardley even worth the amount they're asking.

Strangely, Qwest seems to have misplaced the billing from MSN on my account--so I've
been getting DSL for free for 2 months (even though I called both companies & tried to
straighten it out!) As for the Internet bursting it's bubble, I think that there have
always been lots of people using the Net--but there aren't many companies that ever
increased their profits from being online. It's the old good vs. evil thing: we all
want to be able to do things for ourselves, & seek out the best prices; whereas Big
Business wants to find another way to get our dollars into their pockets. Either way,
long live the Internet!!

You know, the "burst" was only an adjustment for business's rampant drive towards anything web, not a sign of internet dysfunctionality.

Investors knew that business and society would be forever changed by the web. What they didn't know, is just how, where and when.

There is no "unbursting". we call this a shaking out.

The thing is: the internet bubble burst four years ago. All of the companies online now are ones that aren't stupid. It is not suprising that not stupid companies are making money.

(Don't ask me why everyone was suprised that stupid companies did not make money four years ago)

I think the thing was that amny peopel did not think those companies were stupid. Actually, some really weren't, but I think the major problem was that they were not well planned out. Also they though wads of cash was waiting just around the bend if they make a on-line pitch.

Yes, I guess the bubble burst is really a 'shaking out'.

One thing in piticular that bugs me is internet advertiseing and the lack of thought behind it. It is not about links to another site. Sheeesh, it is about marketing and name brand reconition (just like on TV, Billboards, newspapers and magazines..) What the net does previde is a interaction. That interaction has to be understood and use in different ways as well as not used at all. Design is key.

I think that is starting with advertizing though, it might actually be possible for some (no where near all) sites to pay cost for running the site through advertising. Maybe a couple of years from now the internet ad thing will be different.

Don't get me started on web design.. ooohhh weee...
