For me, TextBanners (Run by Stardock) is one of the best ideas to come out. Similar to Google text ads, yet in allot of ways more localized to a community. For example, TextBanners is the New York Daily News while Google is the New York Times. One is more local while the other is more national (or international). How do you use both at the same time?

My solution is simple... I guess. I am actually carrying out this solution on my knowledge-base site I am creating for myself joeKnowledge (currently called joetheblow). The plan is to use TextBanners for specific areas like the Multimedia Artist Designers (MAD) section still in development and where I have news inserts and news feeds. The idea is that if it’s about community things like artists, skinners, or on a secondary tier of the page or I-frame (like the jtb NewsBrief) then they will be put there.

Another example of using TextBanners and Google together is a website I am opening by next week called Search Advertising. It is another experiment of mine in creating a metamediary with Internet store ads and brick and mortar ads (along with reviews on some products… hopefully by users… or by me if I bought the product) that sell items I am interested in or what I think people want (no, I have no statistical data to back it up other than reading news reports and watching trends). This site is more about finding an item that might be on sale or hard to get after digging through the store site and get this... it has a community where shoppers can talk to each other and talk about what they bought. Since it will be more focused on the community aspect and generating user input and output, using TextBanners is perfect. Now people can advertise there own wears (for trade like eBay), personal websites, or other community related events while your looking for an item on sale. Yes, TextBanners can have a store like Macy*s advertise through it, but Marge and Jack will be the ones who will mostly use it. Google on the other hand, would only occupy main pages like the home page and/or category pages.

Using both Google and TextBanners you can increase your sites popularity from a users point of view because the users will get actual information or data that will be helpful. Google has the mass appeal while TextBanners has the local quality.

Another example would be another site I am apart of and developing, called Vehicle Worlds (opening in August in Beta form while grand opening not until 2005 Fall) will also use the Google, TextBanners combination. Community pages, like the message board and the eBay auction area for user-to-user sales, will have TextBanner ads. The main page and news story pages, find a car, truck etc pages will have Google ads. The mixture, I believe, should work very well. This way everyone gets exposure to the best content that will hopefully help them with something.

Advertising should help, not just promote. This is why I like Google Ads so much because it is the beginning of intelligent marketing rather than making people except your product by trying to outsmart them or convince them to get it. With TextBanners it’s about community, with anyone from anywhere having an ad. I LOVE YOU MOMMA can be the message for the day. While TextBanners can be just as big as Google, for now it is the perfect teammate in advertising.
