Because that was where mine was a few days ago.

The told me I almost died... I am just realizing how serious that was...

Anybody know someone who has high blood pressure? How do you eat? No salt? What about excises?

Turned out it was his thyroid. Wierd how one little thing can just screw up your whole system like that.

But, your Thyroid is not a little thing at all.  It has a major bearing on your entire endocrine system.  A bad thyroid can do some really bad things to you.  You should have your thyroid tested with every check up.  I got a "vacation" from work after mine decided to kill me (long battle...I didn't win) and had to have it removed.  I'm still struggling to get a "correct" balance with it.  Keep changing thyroid replacements to find one that my body is happy with.  And, each brand and dose seems to have a different effect on my kidneys and BP.  An overactive thyroid can cause congestive heart failure and other health issues.  An underactive can have a whole bunch of other issues (especially with females).  But, underactive, though making you feel like a slug, is less likely to kill you than overactive.

Ah.....the the beauty of things that are out of your control.....

Really I meant that it's such a little thing, size wise.
My mom had an underactive thyroid, she would go to sleep in the middle of a sentence, wierd! But yes, it does make a big impact, like I said my husband now has to live with the heart condition caused by it. I hope yours is now under control, aside from the physical control it has, I bet your emotions swing pretty wildly...
Now, Joe, WHAT DID YOUR DOCTOR SAY!?

2) If you can, measure your BP standing, sitting, laying etc and see what you get.

I think THAT something I need to get started on. I am going to get my blood pressure pump tomorrow.

OK, went to the doctor yesterday and here are the results:
110/70

My blood pressure is back to normal... at least under the medication. I do notice that when I want to move around I feel woozy (but not dizzy as I felt last Thursday) and found myself weak. I am not sure why I feel so weak. Maybe because my pressure was so high for so long that my body is not use to the normal pressure???? Plus I find my self addle minded. I can't remember short term memory events. I'm getting better thought. Mom says I need to eat more.

The doctor didn't really respond to me saying that I feel weak (from what I saw anyway), but he did give me slips to get another EKG, blood test, urine and the referral to the Kidney doctor. I guess that makes sense just to see if things are right.

Anyway, I think I will change doctors though. I had him for years but I think he is slipping. I never saw him act this way until somewhere like last year. I still trust him but he just seems to be off a little bit. I just want to know if I am OK.

It will take you some time to adjust to the medication. Keep taking it, be aware that you are drowsy and woozy right now (maybe don't drive so much). Take notes and don't be afraid to call your M.D. He can either adjust the medicine or prescribe a different one.

Don't be discouraged, this is only the beginning. You will feel a lot better later on.

So the mediction can make me feel weak and drowsey? I need to take a look at the side effects. I am about to knock out so I think I'll give it a good look in the morning.

Maybe I should go back to work on Monday instead of Sunday???
on Mar 11, 2004
Just the process of adjusting to the change. Your body always needs a chance to aclimate to any new environment, internal or external. Once you are used to it it probably won't bother you at all.

take your time, bud.

Listen to goodmorphing, he speaks the truth . Your body is adjusting to the medication, and all medications have the potential for causing side effects. Dizziness, sleepiness, nausea, and vomiting are probably the most common side effects that all medications can cause. Plus, yes, your system is going through some major adjustments and has to get itself settled down. It's going to take some time.

Wait and see what the results of your EKG, lab tests, and kidney consult are...then you can make some decisions about whether making the change to another doctor is appropriate. And if you're still feeling woozy and "off" the next time you see your doctor, make sure you speak up, because maybe you'll need a change in meds that won't make you feel so out of sorts.

But 110/70 is mighty fine, much better than 205/180!

If you have the time to take, and want to, it wouldn't hurt you to take it easy for a few days. However, if you would stress more staying away from your 'duties' then go... why not just keep your options as open as possible right now? You will prolly need time off if the other docs order a series of tests....

I think I will wait until Monday to go back to work. I will give me time to catch up on school work and just to relax... do something I have been waiting to do a long time now... skin some stuff!

I am still amazed thought, that my blood pressure was so high. I am glad I survived it, but from what I am hearing I might not have at all.

I try not to think about it, but the first night I was home I couldn't sleep ecause I was afraid I wouldn't wake up.

(Oh and yse this is joetheblow, just working under a new name.)

This was the first time I was ever in the hospital. Very scary and I REALLY didn't like the IV needle in my hand.

hehe.... you would love that little needle if you had been sick enough to experience worse. You would be surprised the places they put tubes these days.....

I still say get another Dr. If this guy did not advise you of the possible side effects of the medication he prescribed - he's lacking. I was on at least three types of BP tablets before we found one that was compatible with my system. And - was always advised of the possible side effects.(listen to Jinn Fizz & good morphing ) I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT EVERYBODY GET THEIR BP CHECKED ON A REGULAR BASIS. Sorry for shouting, but I've got kinda attached to everyone around here. BP is called the silent killer because you don't know if you have it or not unless you get yourself checked out. >

Goodmorphing shame on you!! Don't scare him!
Joe make sure you trust your doctor WITH YOUR LIFE. I've changed doctors before just because, as much as I loved them, they didn't work for me anymore. Don't stay with him just because you've always used him. And be sure though and tell your kidney doctor EVERYTHING. I always have to write things down before I go, you should too if you're having short term memory lapses.
Let us know!

Joe, I have nothing to add to this thread that others haven't already said, other than I am a person who is required to take a boatload of meds every day. One makes me really sick, but I save that one for weekends (it's a once a week drug), because these drugs have given me my life back, in spite of the side effects (dizziness, bone loss, etc.). I have a kind of arthritis, called spondyloarthropathy. I had to take 4 months medical leave a few years ago to get the meds adjusted. But, in spite of the side effects, I can walk now. As a matter of fact, I walk miles almost every day with my gigundo German Shepherd. And, I do it without a cane. Sure, I'm not perfect. I still limp. I still resort to pain meds from time to time. BUT I CAN WALK.

Moral of the story, take your meds, adjust to the side effects, find another med that works if you can't. Find a doc you can trust, cuz s/he's gonna be your best friend.

And, of course, it goes without saying, I sure wish you the absolute best. Good luck, bud. I'm pullin' for ya.

Joe....when I first saw your thread topic question my first thought 'answer' was....'get your funeral organised'.

I didn't mention that....preferring to wait till you'd got the level down and could crack a smile....
